Latest reveal "GTA 6: The Extended Look," Netflix, August 27, 2026

Release Date: November 19, 2026

GTA 6 was originally teased for a 2025 window when Trailer 1 dropped on December 5, 2023. That slipped twice:

  • May 2025: Rockstar set its first specific date, May 26, 2026, citing the need for more development time.
  • November 2025: A second delay pushed the date six months further, to the current November 19, 2026.

Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick has since reaffirmed the November date multiple times through 2026, most recently around the August Extended Look reveal, and Rockstar North co-studio head Rob Nelson gave the same assurance in a late-August 2026 Famitsu interview. As of this writing, no further delay has been announced.

Platforms: PS5 and Xbox Series X|S Only (For Now)

GTA 6 is confirmed exclusively for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S at launch, it will not release on PS4 or Xbox One. No PC release date has been announced. Based on the gap between GTA 5's console and PC launches (roughly 18 months), a PC version is widely expected to follow, but this is not yet confirmed by Rockstar and shouldn't be treated as a locked timeline.

The Setting: Leonida and Vice City

GTA 6 takes place in Leonida, Rockstar's fictional take on Florida, centered on a rebuilt, modernized Vice City. Rockstar North co-studio head Rob Nelson has stated in interviews accompanying recent preview events that:

  • The full Leonida map is roughly three times the size of Red Dead Redemption 2's world.
  • Vice City itself is roughly twice the size of GTA 5's Los Santos.
  • Vice City and its surrounding built-up suburbs combined are about 11 times larger than the equivalent area in GTA 5.

These figures come from developer statements made directly to press and content creators at Rockstar-hosted preview events, not from datamined files or fan estimates, but note they're descriptive comparisons from Rockstar staff, not an official press-release spec sheet, so treat exact multipliers as approximate rather than engineering-precise.

Meet the Protagonists: Lucia Caminos and Jason Duval

For the first time in a mainline GTA game, the story is built around two equally central protagonists rather than one lead (or GTA 5's trio). Confirmed details:

  • Lucia Caminos, grew up in Liberty City, later incarcerated at Leonida Penitentiary. Rockstar's official character description notes her father taught her to fight from a young age. She is the series' first non-optional female protagonist.
  • Jason Duval, grew up around grifters, spent time in the Army, and later worked around criminal contacts in the Florida Keys.
  • Their relationship is described by Rockstar as a "Bonnie and Clyde"-style criminal partnership, and is the emotional core of both trailers released so far.
  • In solo play, you can switch between Lucia and Jason, continuing the dual/multi-protagonist switching mechanic Rockstar introduced in GTA 5.

We cover both characters, and everyone else confirmed around them, in more depth in our dedicated [GTA 6 characters guide].

What "The Extended Look" Actually Showed

Rockstar's biggest reveal to date, "GTA 6: The Extended Look," premiered on Netflix on August 27, 2026, becoming freely available on Rockstar's YouTube channel and the official GTA 6 site six hours later. The 26-minute reveal was captured entirely from in-game PlayStation 5 footage and covered vehicles, interiors, NPC density, and story tone in more depth than either trailer.
